That's the rumor making the rounds in MMA circles according to MMAJunkie.com. While it is a long shot, it's not too far-fetched to think that Randy Couture could take on Brock Lesnar at UFC 91 in November.
According to the report, Couture is open to returning to the UFC if the promotion would then end their legal battle and allow him to walk away "free and clear".
The fight between Couture and the UFC has been ongoing since late last year over the status of his contract. The case is currently in arbitration in Nevada and this could be the way that it gets settled.
It's no secret that the 44-year old UFC hall of famer wants to fight Fedor Emelianenko but that bout has about a zero percent chance of ever happening in the UFC. Maybe both sides get what they want with this solution. Couture gets to go wherever he wants after one more fight to pursue his dream matchup while the UFC gets to put together what could potentially be a mega-fight between one of its biggest stars and what it hopes is their biggest star in the making.
Sure, Couture would be the favorite in a fight against Lesnar but I would give the Minnesota native a fair shot even though it would only be his fourth MMA fight. He's absolutely huge, can pack a punch and is a very accomplished amateur wrestler. Plus, he doesn't have to worry too much about getting caught in an armbar or a leg lock.
UFC is searching for a main event for its November event and would like to have Lesnar in it. The fight had been offered to Cheick Kongo but that almost surely will not happen with Kongo recovering from a shoulder injury.
So why not have Randy Couture take on Brock Lesnar? I know I would love to see that fight and I'm sure many others would as well. Now let's see if it actually happens.
